The first half of this review will not have any spoilers, so anyone who has not read the book or any of the Harry Potter books can read the first half. I will not do a synopsis since I am sure everyone knows what this series is about...
Let me start off by saying that this book was a 5 out of 5 for me... I have currently been eating this series up. I am so glad that I finally came around to reading this series and constantly judge myself for not reading it sooner. I can honestly say that it is my new favorite book series. If you have not read the books yet, I highly suggest you should. Even adults will love this middle grade series. So far my favorite books have been Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.
The world that J.K. Rowling has created is flawless and, for lack of better terms, magical. Whenever I read one of the Harry Potter books, I constantly wonder how a single person came up with a world so intricate, well-connected, and diverse. The reader really feels for the characters and has deep connections with them.
This is all I will say in the non-spoilery section... If you have not read this series, please do yourself a huge favor and just read the first book. You will be hooked.
Spoiler Section
SPOILERS: This section will contain spoilers for the series and book. Do not read passed this point if you haven't read this book. I would hate for you to get spoiled on such a great read.
The Triwizard Tournament was such an interesting concept and each task kept me on edge. I loved Fleur and Viktor as side characters as well. They were very interesting. Cedric was definitely one of my favorite characters in this book, which moves me to my next point. The third task and the Triwizard Cup. I loved the maze and how the champions had to cast spells on creature within the maze. When Harry figured out the riddle the sphinx gave him, I actually cheered. I really enjoyed seeing the connection between Harry and Cedric during the task. When they both grabbed the cup... that made me so happy. Then it turned out it was a Portkey and they ended up in a graveyard. And then the moment I dreaded the most... Cedric's death. I already knew it was going to happen, but I was still very affected by it. I may or may not have shed a few tears during the Voldemort scene. Thanks a lot J.K. Rowling for writing the second book that made me cry...
When the Death Eaters came to Voldemort when he got his body back, I was so nervous and on the edge of my seat once again. I felt so tense.
The duel scene between You-Know-Who and Harry was so cool to read. I loved how Harry heard Dumbledore and the phoenix in his mind and how he saw his parents, Cedric, and the other people Voldemort killed during the duel.
Can I just say that I did not expect that "Moody", who really wasn't Moody, but Barty Crouch, betrayed Harry? That caught me off guard. It was such a big plot twist and it still makes me feel weird, but that ended up clearing many things up. I wonder how much planning Rowling had to do before writing the book to pull that one off.
Let's talk about the characters, because there were some great characters and some characters that made me really mad, which is good.
One of my favorite characters ever is Dobby. He is so loyal and faithful. He is so cute. I love how sweet he is and how he did everything in his power to keep Harry safe. Dobby is seriously the most adorable thing ever.
I have already mentioned Cedric. He was such a great character. I loved how kind he was and how he was a fair person.
I feel like Dumbledore was much more present in this book and this book made me love him much more. He was like a father figure to Harry and is so protective and respectful.
Fudge really bothered me in this book because of his actions at the end of the book. He just didn't want to believe that Voldemort was back and I feel like his decision to dismiss Dumbledore's precautionary requests will play a huge part in the future books.
Harry's character developed greatly during this book as well. I really enjoyed reading about him. The whole Ron and Harry fight made me so upset in this book. It took so long for them to make up and it made me sad because Ron is one of my favorite characters.
I loved George and Fred's joke items. They added a very fun element to the story. The twins are awesome and I love reading about them. I also loved meeting the rest of the Weasley siblings.
All in all this was an amazing book. It was so compelling. It shocked me to notice how fast I read it. Everything in it was so incredible: the plot twists, the characters, the plot, the setting, and tone. I am already dying to read the next books. I CANNOT WAIT TO READ THEM. Tell me which book is your favorite...
