With 2018 on the horizon, it is time for my annual list of favorite songs for the year. My obsession for K-Pop was refueled this year, so there are quite a few of those songs in the list, the remaining songs being in the Alternative or Pop genres. Here is my list (and feel free to comment your own favorite songs):
1. "Particles" - Nothing But Thieves
This is my favorite song ever. The lyrics are the vocalist's way of bearing his soul, which makes the song's meaning so deep and even more so, relatable. It really speaks to me and I know that when things are bad, I can turn to this song to get me through.
2. "Limitless" - NCT 127
All I can say is yes. Everything about this video is perfect: the vocals, the dancing. I'm still jamming to this and it came out in January, which, as someone who gets bored of music easily, is a testament to their creativity.
3. "I Don't Know Why" - Imagine Dragons
This is hands-down the best song off of their new album. It is such a bop. I love that they are experimenting with different sounds and progressing as the band changes. Imagine Dragons will forever be my favorite group.
4. "Likey" - Twice
I am a new fan of Twice, but I am so hooked. This song is so cute and happy.
5. "Easy Love" - SF9
Believe me when I say that I listen to this song at least three times a day since it came out, but I forgot to mention it in my post about k-pop. I'm obsessed with this group and this song. SF9 is so underrated.
6. "Young and Menace" - Fall Out Boy
I love that Fall Out Boy is trying different sounds with their songs, but are still able to keep it authentic to their personal sound.
7. "I Dare You" - The xx
I don't know what it is about this song, but it makes me feel so peaceful. Their voices merge together so well.
8. "Lilili Yabbay" - Seventeen (Performance Unit)
Holy moly, this is the most addicting video ever. The falsettos are everything and don't even get me started on the performance itself: amazing!
9. "Dramarama" - Monsta X
Monsta X is my favorite k-pop group, my goodness, so I was visibly shook when this video was released. In all seriousness though, I love that this video was filmed almost like a short-film, but also integrated dances throughout. The song itself is really different than other k-pop songs and felt like it was in a genre of its own.
10. "High" - Sir Sly
"High" is such an original song, from the vocals to the music to the music video. Sir Sly's music is very eccentric, which separates them from other Indie groups.
11. "You In Me" - K.A.R.D
I am in love with K.A.R.D. They have their signature sound, which separates them from other k-pop groups, but are also co-ed, which adds complexity to their music. This song, in my opinion, is one of their best.
12. "Heartless" - Evaride
"Heartless" is such a beautiful song. I love the percussion and just the music in general. I cannot wait to see what Evaride comes out with next.
13. "Golden Dandelions" - Barns Courtney
This man's voice is like butter and he exudes true talent. I feel like this song is one of those Urban Outfitter playlist songs, which I am into, but Barns Courtney still added his own flair to differentiate between his music and others.
14. "Intro: Serendipity" - BTS
Park Jimin is back to murder me and accomplished it. His voice is angelic and soft in this song, truly iconic. I wish BTS even more success in the U.S. with this new year.
15. "Let Me Go" - No Method
This song reminds me of summer. It would always play on the radio when I was in Turkey and, thus, triggers memories of my trip. It has such an easy flow and calm aura.
16. "Something Different" - Why Don't We
There was a two month period where Why Don't We was legitimately all I listened to. I have been following Daniel Seavey since he was on American Idol, so I was so excited when I learned he was in a group. This song is very original and showcases all of the boys' voices well.
17. "The Way I Do" - Bishop Briggs
Bishop Briggs kills me with her powerful voice. This song is a perfect example of that.
18. "Mouth of the River" - Imagine Dragons
The vocals in "Mouth of the River" are absolutely addicting, especially when the song opens. Imagine Dragons never ceases to impress me. They are truly producers of art.
19. "I'm Not Made By Design" - Nothing But Thieves
This is one of the more "Rock" songs on Nothing But Thieves' new album and houses a beautiful sound from the band behind the lyrics.
20. "Really Really" - Winner
There is nothing wrong about this video: the song is catchy and wonderful, the video's aesthetics are amazing. It is something that I will never get bored of.
Oh my goodness! I love BTS too. My bias is V :)
