Why I Have Integrated Too Much K-Pop Into My Life
The multi-media world of k-pop has become somewhat of a global phenomenon, resonating with vast numbers of people. When put into perspective, this observation makes complete sense as by design k-pop is set up to have success abroad (English-lyrics, intense videos, etc.) I must admit, I have always been a huge k-pop junkie since my fetus days, but two years ago, I became hooked on it. Here is a list of why k-pop is amazing:
- There is an immense amount of effort put into music video productions.
- Everything is so aesthetically pleasing: the performance, the set, the clothes. Each video is like a mini-movie. Sometimes I will be in awe of idol's dancing abilities, so if you have an ounce of curiosity, just watch it for the talent.
- The artists are portrayed as actual human beings.
- Most k-pop groups have separate interviews or their own videos that show that they are just regular people. This allows for their audience to have a deeper connection with their music and creates a heavily involved fan base. Plus, they are funny as heck: just watch Weekly Idol.
- Gain exposure to a different culture
- K-pop got me more interested in Korean culture (I tried to learn Korean for a week and gave up because it is so difficult). Nationality has an interesting way of influencing pop culture, which is why k-pop is so compelling.
- K-pop is extremely addicting.
- A combination of all of these points creates a genre that is extremely enticing to all types of people and all cultures. Quickly, you will know every inside joke, every song, watch every interview, and have a long list of biases. Once you are exposed to the world of k-pop, you cannot get back out.
